Du 24 novembre 2024 au 16 février 2025, une grande exposition réunissant parmi les meilleurs créateurs européens dans le domaine des arts appliqués contemporains ouvre ses portes aux Anciens Abattoirs de Mons. Une 6e édition qui regroupera 58 artistes issus de 16 pays européens, pour une centaine d’œuvres uniques exposées. Deux Prix, d’une valeur de 3.500 €, seront remis aux lauréats grâce au soutien du World Craft Council Europe et du Ministère de la Culture de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. 

L’exposition se veut offrir ce qui se fait de mieux, en Europe, à travers des créations techniquement et esthétiquement maîtrisées. S’y trouvent à l’honneur les métiers d’arts de la céramique, du verre, de l’orfèvrerie, du bois, du textile, du papier, du bijou contemporain… autant de créations faisant appel à la maîtrise du geste. Au-delà du savoir-faire, c’est le caractère contemporain de ces créations qu’il importe tout autant de présenter. Les créateurs actuels s’affranchissent des codes traditionnels pour questionner le monde. De nouvelles matières et de nouvelles techniques s’ajoutent aux recettes traditionnelles pour donner à voir une forme d’art aussi moderne qu’ancienne, aussi codifiée que réactionnaire.

Pour une reconsidération à sa juste valeur de la maîtrise du geste, BeCraft a attribué un nouveau titre à son événement : MAESTRIA

From 24 November 2024 to 16 February 2025, a major exhibition bringing together some of the finest makers on the contemporary applied arts scene will be held at the Anciens Abattoirs in Mons. This sixth edition will showcase around one hundred unique pieces by 58 artists from 16 different European countries. Two prizewinners will each be awarded 3.500€, thanks to the support of the World Craft Council Europe and the Ministry of Culture of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

The exhibition aims to show some of the finest work produced in Europe, displaying a range of perfectly mastered techniques with high aesthetic standards. Ceramics, glass, metal, wood and paper crafts and 
contemporary jewellery, will all be represented. Besides the skills required to produce these creations, their contemporariness is an important element. Current makers are going beyond the traditional codes and thinking “outside the box”. New materials and new techniques are being incorporated into the traditional recipes to create an art form that is both modern and ancient, codified and reactionary.

For a re-evaluation of the true worth of the mastery of skill, BeCraft has awarded a new title to its event: MAESTRIA.
